Clinical Agents Repository Inventory Management System (CARIM)
Business
Need
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) supports research
in many areas including bacteriology and mycology, biodefense, emerging
infectious diseases, microbial genomics, parasitology, respiratory diseases,
sexually transmitted infections, vaccine development, and virology that
has improved the health of millions of people in the United States and
around the world. DMID recognized that manually managing the inventory,
control, and delivery of hundreds of investigational new drugs was not
only cumbersome but also time consuming.
Solution
CTi developed a customized web-based application, the Clinical
Agents Repository Inventory Management System (CARIM), to effectively manage
and control the inventory of the new investigational drugs. The web-based
solution allowed DMID to automate and enforce its complex business processes
of storing, shipping, receiving, and categorizing investigational new drugs
within a secure environment.
Results
DMID can monitor and track investigational new drugs that represent
potential future treatment options in the control and prevention of human
disease, including, but not limited to; small pox, influenza, antimicrobial
resistance, viral infections, and biodefense-related diseases. CARIM also
allows DMID to ensure the integrity and security of these substances pending
FDA approval.
