| 1st Annual HDDC Tennis Tournament
HERNDON, VA – July 26th, 2003— The First Annual Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce Tennis Tournament was held on July 26-27. The event was a fundraiser for the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce, whose mission is to increase the areas tourism and economic development with the goal in making the Herndon Dulles region a model for multiculturalism.
Players from the Washington DC metro area participated in the tennis tournament this year with skill levels ranging from 3.0 to 4.5. At this year’s event, a consolation draw added, which guaranteed all participants would play at least twice. In the regular open draw, Thi Duong prevailed 6-1, 6-0 over Paul Pinocci in the championship match. As the winner, Duong was the recipient of the events Championship trophy, the Palm Zire, and a Cascades Technologies polo. Pinocci left with the Runner-Up trophy and prizes that included a Cascades Technologies polo and a Sports & Health Club gym bag. On the consolation draw, William Aviles succeeded over Errol Llantos 6-1, 6-4 and went home with a Sports & Health gym bag.
All in all the players enjoyed the indoors facilities and commented on how nice it was to play indoors instead of the 100 degree weather outside. Special thanks go to Bill Starh, Tennis Director, and Sherry Hope, Membership Consultant, for making this event possible at the Sports & Health Club.
The tournament also drew four sponsors this year: Sports & Health Club, who donated the air conditioned indoor courts for the event; For Health and Balance, who donated funding for the event; Keohi Web Design, who donated the tennis balls for the event; and Cascades Technologies, who volunteered their time to make this event a success. All sponsor names were printed on the official tournament T-shirt, along with the logos for our sponsors and banners displayed on the courts. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
