National Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15 - Oct. 15

HDCC Spotlights our President & CEO as an example of a Successful Hispanic Business Leader

HERNDON, VA – September 1, 2004 — National Hispanic Heritage Month has been designated by the U. S. Congress to honor the culture, heritage, and contributions of Hispanic Americans each year. Starting this year, on September 14, the Herndon Town Council will formally recognize Hispanic Heritage month in the town. The following three active members of the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce exemplify how entrepreneurs with foreign heritage are contributing to the community and the economy.

Alfredo Casta, who was born in Puerto Rico, formed Cascades Technologies (CTi) in 1998 after working years as a federal employee. His yen to be an independent technical guru led to building a company that has enjoyed steady growth and now employs 30 people-of diverse ethnicity. CTi is an 8(a) Certified, Hispanic-owned Small Business with a commitment to personal and corporate integrity. The company provides Internet solutions for its clients, most of which are federal agencies. CTi has also been providing Web hosting services for the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce and wrote the module for the Resume Center.

In November 2003 Cascades Technologies began assisting Vecinos Unidos/United Neighbors Inc., an after-school program in an economically distressed section of Herndon, by solving computer related issues. This summer, the company was largely responsible for raising $2,000 for Vecinos Unidos through its Second Annual Tennis Tournament, co-sponsored by Sport & Health Club and the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce. The First Annual Tennis Tournament, held July 2003, raised funds for the Chamber.
